  • Emeka reads 2 pages a day. How many pages in 2 days?

    • 4
    • 2
    • 1
    • 6

    Answer: 4 — 2 × 2 = 4. That is 2 groups of 2.

  • Chidi worked out 82 − 6. One line is wrong — which one?

    1. Line 1: 82 − 6
    2. Line 2: Units: 2 − 6 needs borrowing
    3. Line 3: = 86

Answer: Line 3 — Line 3 is wrong. After borrowing, 82 − 6 = 76, not 86 — the ten that was borrowed must be taken off the tens column.

  • Three of these are multiples of 4. Which one is not?

    • 20
    • 32
    • 16
    • 17

Answer: 17 — 17 ÷ 4 does not give a whole number, so it is not in the 4 times table.
